Immigrants with uncertain immigration status can’t get drivers’ licenses. So their periodic obligations to report to the immigration authorities–to check in, go to court proceedings, etc.–can pose extreme difficulties. Help out by joining our Ride Corps: drive individuals to immigration-related appointments at ICE, USCIS, and immigration court.
Training and full instructions will be provided. Spanish language skills are helpful but not necessary. What you do need is a car you can drive another person or two in, and time–these appointments are typically in Detroit and you need time during the work day to take someone there, wait for their appointment and drive them back. So if you have an inflexible every-day work schedule, this might not be the opportunity for you. If you sign up, you’ll be on a list that will receive notice as needs arise–so you don’t need to commit to any particular time or trip in advance.
